The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name is a provocation. Bora Bora conjures turquoise lagoons and breezy nights, yet this fragrance was born in Florence, from Giovanni Di Massimo's curiosity about an unexpected pairing: cherry and white pepper. The Italian label says it plainly: Ciliegia e Pepe Bianco. No metaphors, no misdirection. The question was whether the two could coexist, cherry's lush sweetness against pepper's dry heat. The answer sits on skin.
The structure makes it possible. Amaretto bridges the gap between fruit and spice, its bitter-almond edge echoing both the cherry above and the white pepper at the heart. The florals, hibiscus and damask rose, bring freshness that could have tipped the composition into candy. Instead, they keep the opening buoyant. What makes this unusual isn't any single material. It's how Di Massimo refused to let sweetness win. The pepper keeps everything honest.
The evolution
The opening arrives bright and tart. Hibiscus gives a tropical lift, the damask rose adds a classic floral roundness, and the amaretto, there from the start, introduces an almost marzipan-like sweetness that doesn't apologize for itself. Initially, this reads as fruity-floral. Comfortable. Then the white pepper begins to assert itself. Not aggressively. More like a hand on the small of your back, guiding the composition somewhere warmer. The cherry isn't gone, it's unfolding now, sitting alongside almond and vanilla in a heart that feels edible in the best way. This is where the fragrance earns its name. Not tropical Bora Bora, the warmth of it, the body heat of a place where clothing becomes optional. As the scent develops, vanilla and cedar arrive to settle things. The florals retreat but don't disappear, hibiscus has a way of lingering that feels like a memory rather than a presence.
Cultural impact
A niche house playing in a space between fruity-floral and spicy warmth. The cherry-and-pepper pairing brings together contrasting elements that create unexpected harmony. The composition speaks to those who appreciate fragrances with character, where familiar notes are reimagined through a distinctive lens. This isn't a scent that follows seasonal trends or aims to please the broadest audience possible. Instead, it offers something specific and confident, a perfume that rewards attention and invites the wearer to explore its layers rather than simply passing through.
