The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Flair joined Gissah's Signature Collection in 2025, a chapter in the Kuwaiti-based brand's ongoing catalogue of narrative-driven scents. The brand treats every release as a story fragment, and Flair reads like a character study: confident, a little secretive, dressed in wood and spice. Part of the Enchanted collection, it sits within the house's growing catalogue, positioned for the woman who treats her scent wardrobe as autobiography. Gissah has built its reputation on translating storytelling traditions into wearable composition, and Flair continues that thread with a floral-woody structure that feels both rooted and modern.
The interesting choice here is restraint. Ylang-ylang and saffron sit at the heart, a pairing that can easily slide into tropical sweetness or full spice-rack aggression. Gissah keeps both in check, framing them with cedar and patchouli below and a generous bergamot above. The rose is present but never dominant. The blackcurrant adds a green-fruit bite that prevents the florals from going soft. It's a composition that knows exactly where each note belongs, and the discipline shows in how cleanly the stages hand off to each other.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to bergamot and blackcurrant, bright and almost sharp, with rose threading through like it arrived early to the party. The fruit recedes by the half-hour mark as saffron and ylang-ylang take over, warm and golden, slightly medicinal in the way good saffron can be. The saffron has presence. It doesn't vanish quietly; it leans into the ylang-ylang's sweetness and roughens it up. By the two-hour mark, the cedar and patchouli have built a proper foundation underneath, woody and dry, carrying traces of the florals like a photograph left in the sun. The drydown is where this earns its keep: patchouli-led, warm, close to the skin, with a faint sweetness that lingers well into the following hours. Moderate sillage means it stays personal, drawing people in rather than reaching across the room.
Cultural impact
Flair reads as a more composed entry within Gissah's own catalogue, a quieter companion to brighter releases in the line. The moderate sillage and close wear make it a choice rather than a statement, appealing to collectors who prefer intimacy over projection. There's a distinct evening sensibility to the way saffron and patchouli anchor the composition, lending it a contemplative weight that contrasts with the lighter, more casual energy of fragrances designed for daytime heat and activity.
