The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Brooklyn by Gallivant was composed by Giorgia Navarra, a perfumer. The brief was simple: capture the energy of a Brooklyn morning. Not the postcard version, the real one. Power-walking to breakfast, early summer breeze off the East River, the fizz of life that doesn't stop. Navarra translated that urban momentum into a fragrance that opens bright and never loses its nerve. The top notes hit with immediate energy, citrus zest and crisp green facets that feel like stepping out of the subway into fresh air. As it settles, warmer spices and a clean musk emerge, mirroring the way a neighborhood reveals layers the longer you walk through it. The dry down holds steady, neither too heavy nor too light, maintaining that kinetic pulse from first spray to final fade.
The structure is what makes Brooklyn interesting. Citrus at the top, bergamot, lemon, orange, gives it that immediate fizz, but there's ozonic notes in there too, which add something colder, more atmospheric. Like the air after rain on concrete. The heart pairs magnolia with orris root, which gives it a powdery, slightly nostalgic quality that softens the brightness. And the base, benzoin, amber, white woods, musk, keeps it warm and close to the skin rather than projecting outward into the room.
The evolution
The opening hits fast. Citrus spark, a squeeze of lemon, the sharp brightness of bergamot. That fizz lasts maybe thirty minutes before the florals start to show through, magnolia arriving soft, orris root adding that powdery warmth underneath. By the second hour, the base starts to announce itself. Benzoin and amber create a warmth that balances the initial sharpness. The musk keeps everything close, intimate, skin-warm. The drydown is where Brooklyn earns its reputation. White woods and musk settle into the skin like a second layer. Not loud. Not trying. Just there, comfortable, the kind of scent that someone notices when they're standing close. Lasts into the evening on fabric. The next morning, a trace on a shirt collar, that warm amber-and-musk base, still holding.
Cultural impact
Brooklyn has quietly become one of Gallivant's most worn scents since its launch. It occupies a specific middle ground, fresh enough for daily wear, interesting enough to not disappear. The citrus-musky profile appeals to people who want something approachable but not generic. It performs consistently across seasons, with a versatility that makes it reliable from morning through evening. The fragrance opens with an immediate burst of citrus that feels clean and inviting, then settles into a musky warmth that lingers comfortably on the skin.
