The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Optimism arrived in 2025 from Fyrinnae, a house that treats each release like a short story with a clear scene-setter and a payoff. The named lead here is orange blossom, cheerful and unapologetic in the top position, with davana, elemi, and frankincense arranged as the supporting cast. Benzoin, tonka, and osmanthus round out the softer end of the composition, the kind of notes that make the drydown feel like an answer to the opening's brightness rather than a retreat from it. The interplay between citrus, resin, and softer florals gives the fragrance a balance that reads as deliberate, each note doing its part without crowding the others. Orange blossom opens with that recognizable white-floral cheer, immediately warm and bright on the skin.
The interesting move here is the orange blossom and frankincense pairing, two ingredients that get placed in service of different moods more often than they're asked to harmonize. Orange blossom brings the bright white floral warmth, the kind that reads as sunlight rather than shadow. Frankincense brings a cool incense quality that turns the brightness into something quieter and more contemplative, adding depth without darkening the mood.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are almost aggressively cheerful. Orange blossom arrives front and center with a clean brightness, and the elemi lifts it into something greener and sharper than typical white florals. There's a brief moment where it smells less like perfume and more like walking past a citrus grove at noon. Then the frankincense starts to breathe, and the whole composition tilts. The brightness doesn't fade so much as get framed by something cooler, dustier, more deliberate. Over the next stretch of wear, the osmanthus and davana take over, and the scent gets rounder, almost fruity in a quiet way, like apricot skin warmed by sun. The benzoin and tonka settle in, and that's where Optimism earns its name. The drydown is warm, slightly sweet, and remarkably calm.
Cultural impact
Optimism sits within Fyrinnae's catalogue with its incense-and-citrus register on full display. One early wearer described it as a 'new age shop in a bottle,' a characterization that captures the blend of frankincense, orange blossom, and bright citrus. The fragrance reads as optimistic without being naive, warm without being heavy, and finds its footing in the space between bright and contemplative.
