The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Equestrian Series by French Avenue takes its name from the world of horses, where elegance lives in restraint, and composure is its own kind of power. Della arrives as a feminine statement. The brief, if you can call it that: a floral that doesn't dissolve into abstraction. Something with presence, yes, but also with the kind of tart-green clarity that makes people stop and lean in. There's an honesty here that most florals skip over in their rush to become something else. Della doesn't chase that. The tart-green note gives it a structural honesty, a refusal to become mere background noise.
The rhubarb-lychee top is unusual territory for a floral-forward women's scent. Rhubarb brings a tart, almost mineral greenness, the smell of stems snapped at the garden edge, not the syrupy dessert version. Lychee adds sweetness, but it's a cool sweetness, not a warm one. Together they create an opening that feels crisp and specific, rather than generic floral. Then the peony takes over. And that's the real Della, a peony heart that arrives with conviction, grounded by lily of the valley's quiet greenery beneath it.
The evolution
The first spray hits bright and tart. Rhubarb leads, green, almost astringent, a sharpness that wakes everything up. Lychee comes in underneath, rounding the edges just enough. Bergamot threads through, adding a citrus clarity that keeps it from becoming too sweet. This opening phase is where Della shows its most striking character. After that, the florals take over. Peony and rose arrive together, with lily of the valley providing a quiet green undertone. The composition softens noticeably. What was sharp becomes lush. The drydown is where Della earns its reputation. Musk, vanilla, and cashmere wood settle into the skin, warm, powdery, close. The peony never fully disappears. It lingers in the base like a memory of the opening, holding the whole thing together.
Cultural impact
Della arrived as part of a fragrance movement where today's wearer chooses based on how a scent feels, not where it comes from or what it costs. The Equestrian Series positions itself at a specific intersection, polished enough for the woman who pays attention, accessible enough for the one who's just discovering she does. Della delivers that, with florals grounded by green notes and structured enough to avoid fading into the background. The rhubarb keeps it from floating away.
