The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Eywa takes its name from a concept tied to nature's force and positive energy, a winged song, an indomitable spirit with a pure heart. FreeShape Milano, the Milan-based house behind it, positions itself toward spiritually restless cosmopolitans who find beauty in the formless. Their 2022 catalog spans multiple fragrance launches, each one a statement of self-expression through scent. Carlo Ribero built Eywa around the idea of loyalty and uniqueness, the kind of fragrance that becomes a signature rather than a background noise. The concept of a winged song runs through the brand's copy: something that celebrates nature's force while remaining deeply personal. It's an anthem toward the uniqueness of whoever wears it. Bold and sensitive at the same time. That's the brief Ribero worked from.
The most interesting thing about Eywa's architecture is how it handles white florals in two registers at once. Neroli gives the citrus opening a floral softness, that bitter-orange brightness tempered by the clean blossom note. Then jasmine absolute arrives in the heart with its indolic depth, the creamy-animalic quality that makes white florals feel bold rather than polite. Magnolia sits alongside it, adding a powdery-waxy softness that rounds everything. The two florals play against each other, jasmine's richness against magnolia's quiet restraint. That's the tension that makes it work. The base of woody notes and amber doesn't complicate things. It simply holds the florals close, warm, intimate.
The evolution
The opening lasts about an hour. Bright citrus, almost shimmering, the bitter orange and neroli doing their work. Then the hand-off happens. Jasmine and magnolia take over, and the character shifts from luminous to creamy. The Petitgrain in the heart keeps it from going too sweet, adds a green-leaf bitterness that balances the powdery softness. By hour four, the woody amber base arrives. Projection drops from strong to intimate. What remains is warm, close, almost skin-like. It doesn't fill the room anymore, but it stays. On fabric, it goes to sleep and wakes up the next morning as a quiet trace of warm amber. That's the payoff. Not volume, presence.
Cultural impact
Eywa has found its audience among those who appreciate powdery-fruity florals with strong sillage. The white floral heart, jasmine and magnolia, gives it a distinctive character that wears bold yet intimate. The BR540 comparison comes up in community discussion, creating some debate, but hasn't stopped wearers from finding their own relationship with it. The 8-10 hour longevity and strong projection make it a workhorse for those who want a fragrance that lasts without asking for attention.
