The evolution

The opening announces itself immediately. Bergamot and pear arrive crisp, almost sparkling, the bergamot providing bright citrus while the pear adds a soft, dewy quality that feels almost innocent. Then the florals arrive. They do not wait. Jasmine sambac, orange blossom, and tuberose assert themselves with considerable force, the tuberose leading the charge. There is something almost animalic here, a tension beneath the sweetness that keeps the florals from reading as merely pretty. This phase dominates. It refuses to yield for hours. When the drydown finally arrives, the florals begin to soften and release their grip. Vanilla, patchouli, and ambroxan create warmth and resinous depth.
