The beginning
Pieces of My Heart is the latest work from James Elliott, who approaches each Filigree & Shadow fragrance as a melodic theme, a phrase that loops until it becomes the music playing underneath everything else. In this composition, that phrase is sacred space. The creation invites the wearer into a meditative experience, where the interplay of notes creates an atmosphere of quiet contemplation. Elliott's signature approach treats fragrance as an immersive soundscape, where each element contributes to a cohesive emotional narrative that unfolds slowly on the skin.
The note structure creates dynamic tension before finding resolution. Oriental lily appears luminous and radiant, opening with a sweetness that feels like captured light. Then leather arrives, asserting itself with authority and warmth. The mineral notes at the base, Stone and Precious Woods, provide architectural solidity, grounding the composition with cold surfaces and ancient materials. The opening announces itself with luminous sweetness, not quite floral, more like captured light. Crystalline. Then resinous smoke begins threading through, not aggressive, not heavy, steady and persistent. The Oriental lily fades faster than expected, which is the tell: this is a composition where leather takes center stage, carrying subtle softness within it. The incense becomes the air itself, enveloping everything, while the leather settles into something warmer, more intimate, carrying the weight of accumulated memory. The mineral stone and precious woods remain present throughout, creating a quiet, clean finish that lingers on fabric well after application.

Elliott has built a catalog of olfactory narratives that resist easy categorization, from the mixtape culture reference of I Made You a Mixtape to the chemistry-inspired Sui Generis. Pieces of My Heart continues that trajectory, but narrows the focus to something more personal. The composition draws on cathedral atmosphere and candlelit reflection, with leather warmth and intimate resonance throughout.
