The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Only The Brave High entered Diesel's 2017 lineup as a new chapter in the Only The Brave collection. The original Only The Brave was a statement fragrance for men who chose to make one. High takes that ambition and pushes it further, delivering intensity in a concentrated form. Built around immediate impact, the fragrance makes its presence known from the first spray, commanding attention without hesitation. This is a fragrance designed for those who want their scent to speak before they do. The formula amplifies the bold character of its predecessor, creating a version that feels both familiar and distinctly more powerful.
The choice to lead with yuzu signals intention. Blending it with mint and grapefruit creates an opening that reads as cold, almost electric. There's a crispness here that feels almost crystalline, a brightness that cuts through without becoming sharp. The combination creates a refreshing burst that feels energizing and distinctive. Geranium in the heart is the pivot point: green, slightly bitter, it prevents the composition from tipping into sweetness. Woody amber at the base keeps everything grounded in the territory Diesel owns.
The evolution
Mint hits first. Sharp, almost mentholated, the kind of freshness that clears your head before you've finished lifting the bottle cap. Grapefruit arrives within seconds, brighter and more acidic than orange, keeping the mint from settling into anything resembling toothpaste. This opening is aggressive and confident. Then the geranium takes over. The shift is sudden enough to feel like the fragrance changed its mind. Mint retreats to the background. Grapefruit softens. The green, slightly dusty quality of geranium anchors the middle, adding complexity that the opening promised but didn't deliver. Yuzu lingers in traces, a ghost of citrus that keeps the heart from going fully floral. The woody amber base arrives after a couple of hours and doesn't leave for hours more. It reads as warm but restrained, no resinous thickness, no heavy sweetness.
Cultural impact
Only The Brave High arrived in 2017 as part of Diesel's Only The Brave lineup, introducing a mint-yuzu combination that broke from more conventional masculine fragrance structures. The blend married synthetic-clean freshness with genuine citrus warmth, creating something that felt both modern and grounded. This approach positioned the fragrance differently from many designer releases of its time, offering a fresher alternative to the spice-forward compositions that dominated much of the market.
