The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Spirit of the Brave Intense arrived in 2020 as a continuation of the original Spirit of the Brave from 2019. The fragrance builds on the energy of its predecessor, adding intensity and depth where it matters most. Carlos Benaïm composed the scent, bringing his expertise to the structure. The face of the campaign was Neymar Jr., Brazilian football star and global name. The fragrance needed to match that energy: confident, unmistakable, ready when you are. Spirit of the Brave Intense doesn't start quiet.
The note structure itself is the tension. Apple and bergamot open bright, almost playful, fruity sweetness that reads immediately and hits broadly. But the heart is where Diesel works to differentiate the composition. Cypress anchors the structure, its woody-green needle quality cutting through the fruitiness before it can settle into something overly familiar. Sage adds an aromatic, slightly bitter edge that gives the heart complexity. The base, vanilla, amber, patchouli, is warm without being heavy.
The evolution
The opening lands fast. Apple sweetness meets bergamot brightness, crisp, immediate, the kind of entrance that gets noticed in the first five minutes. There's no delay, no quiet build-up. The fragrance announces itself and then pivots. Within twenty minutes, cypress takes over the heart. The green quality becomes more pronounced, almost resinous, as the fruity sweetness starts to recede. Sage threads through, adding an aromatic complexity that feels deliberate. The hand-off from top to heart is unusually clean for a fragrance in this style. The drydown is where patience pays off. Vanilla and amber emerge gradually, softening the cypress edge without erasing it. Patchouli keeps the base grounded, earthy, preventing the sweetness from taking over entirely. The sillage fades to intimate, present for the wearer, barely there for everyone else.
Cultural impact
Spirit of the Brave Intense offers a sweet, approachable profile with enough aromatic complexity to reward attention. The Diesel name brings recognition and a certain attitude. Neymar Jr. as the face anchors the fragrance in a particular persona, athletic, global, visibly comfortable in his own skin. The sweet-spicy-fruity profile has broad appeal, connecting with those who want a confident scent without aggression. The moderate sillage keeps it versatile, present for the wearer, noticed by people in close proximity, but never dominating a room.
