The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Green Tea arrived in 2021 as part of Damask Haus's Global Libations collection, a line built around the idea that a drink, a recipe, a single ingredient can hold an entire memory. Perfumer Bri Beyer shaped this particular composition, and Green Tea reads like a thesis statement for that instinct. One ingredient, treated patiently, turned into something with more dimension than the name implies. Warmth of brewed leaves thickened by sugar and softened by milk, rendered with the kind of restraint that indie houses get away with because no one told them not to. The whole thing holds its breath and lets you lean in rather than pushing forward, an approach that earns its quiet through sheer intent.
What's interesting here is what isn't on the list. Four notes total, and the green tea presence splits across two of them: a standard green tea extract and a separate matcha tea note, each pulling a slightly different facet of the leaf. The standard extract carries the grassy brightness of steeped leaves, while matcha adds something chalkier, slightly more vegetal, almost like the dust at the bottom of the tin. Together with sugar and milk, it becomes a fragrance that smells less like a beverage and more like the air above one.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are almost brutally clean. Green tea at its most literal, grassy, thin, steamy, the bright snap of steeped leaves before anything else gets in the way. Then the milk arrives, not all at once but in waves. It rounds off the sharpest edges of the tea and adds a softness that shifts the whole scent from something you'd drink into something you'd wear. Matcha threads through the middle phase quietly, giving the green a denser, almost powdered weight, a vegetal undertone that keeps the composition from tipping into pure sweetness. Sugar never announces itself as sugar. It just makes the cream sweeter, pulls the temperature up a notch, and lets the whole thing settle into skin like warmth absorbed slowly rather than applied. The drydown pulls back into something quieter and closer.
Cultural impact
Green Tea arrived in 2021 as part of Damask Haus's Global Libations collection. The release placed a beverage-inspired profile into the indie fragrance landscape alongside other tea-forward and single-ingredient compositions from independent houses working in the same period. The fragrance positions itself within a catalogue organized around the theme of libations, where each release takes a familiar drink as its starting point.
