The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Origins dropped in 2022 as part of Cristiano Ronaldo's CR7 line, with Eden Parfums credited as the marketer behind the project. The perfumer Pierre-Constantin Guéros built the composition around an unconventional choice: pineapple sorbet as the opening note, a dessert-adjacent fruit that immediately sets the fragrance apart from the usual men's fresh releases. From the first spray, the pineapple reads cold and sweet, almost like a frozen treat, but the bay leaf and mandarin in the top quickly complicate that sweetness. The bay leaf brings a bitter green edge that pulls the fruit away from anything candy-like, while the mandarin delivers brightness without the sharp sourness of lemon. The result is a fresh-spicy composition that feels considered rather than mass-market.
The interesting move here is the pineapple sorbet as an opening note. Most men's fragrances, and even many niche ones, reach for citrus or mint when they want freshness, so a dessert-adjacent fruit note at the front of a men's release is a gamble. The bay leaf provides a slight bitter green edge that anchors the fruit, and the mandarin supplies brightness without lemon's sharpness. The heart then pivots away from the fruit entirely into a classic aromatic fougere structure with clary sage, geranium, and lavender. That pivot matters because it keeps the pineapple from reading juvenile.
The evolution
The pineapple sorbet and mandarin hit immediately, sweet and sharp, with bay leaf adding a green bitter edge that keeps the fruit from going candy-sweet. Within around 15 minutes the lavender and clary sage arrive, and the whole thing cools down into a clean herbal register. The pineapple never fully disappears but it recedes behind the aromatic middle, which holds steady for the next 3-4 hours. The vetiver and patchouli in the base are subtle, more of a dry earthiness under the herbs than a heavy wood drydown. On skin, the scent sits comfortably close to the wearer, present enough to be noticed by a partner or close friend but never projecting aggressively across a room. The composition feels balanced and intentional, each note given room to breathe rather than stacked on top of one another.
Cultural impact
Origins is a fresh-spicy men's cologne built around pineapple sorbet, aromatic herbs, and an earthy vetiver-patchouli base. Wearers tend to describe it as a reliable daily option, closer in character to a sport fragrance than to a runway release, and it draws comparisons to other accessible fresh-spicy men's colognes in the same general format. The pineapple opening gives it a recognizable signature that stands out from the usual citrus-forward men's releases, while the fougere-style heart keeps it feeling classical and grounded.
