Why it exists.
The beginning
Olivier Funel signed Pisces for Men in 2010, one of CnR Create's early explorations into zodiac-as-scent-narrative. The house had already released Scorpio and Taurus before this point, and Pisces for Men continued the zodiac line as it moved through the astrological calendar. Pisces, ruled by Neptune, was framed by the brand as a portrait of sensitivity, fantasy, and emotional depth. The composition itself plays across a spectrum of temperature: citrus oils cut sharp at the surface, resinous materials thicken the middle, and warm spice settles into the base alongside sandalwood. The result is something quieter than a projection-driven cologne, closer to a personal signature for someone already comfortable being who they are.
The composition draws from a palette built around contrast: citrus brightness against resinous depth, warm spice against creamy wood. Citron and mandarin open with a sharp, almost mineral snap, the kind of clean sourness that wakes up the air around the wearer. Blackcurrant softens what could otherwise read as a thin citrus splash, adding a darker fruit sweetness underneath that pulls the opening into something rounder. Pine enters next with a clean resin quality, not heavy or tar-like, more like the scent of a fresh-cut branch in still air.
The evolution
From the first spray, citron and mandarin define the opening with a sharp brightness, the blackcurrant threading darker fruit sweetness underneath and giving the citrus more body than it would have alone. The opening reads bright but not thin, fruit-sweetened without becoming syrupy. As the citrus recedes, pine moves into the foreground, carrying a clean resin note that recalls the smell of a branch freshly cut. Styrax joins the pine shortly after, adding a soft balsamic warmth that thickens the middle and pushes the composition away from anything overtly fresh. The shift from fruit to resin is one of the smoother transitions in the wear, the blackcurrant and pine overlapping just enough to keep the handoff from feeling abrupt. Cinnamon and caraway then take over the foreground, the caraway adding a dry, almost savory edge beneath the cinnamon's warmth.
