The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
CnR Create launched Sagittarius in 2008, pairing it with the zodiac sign that runs on freedom and forward motion. Olivier Funel built the fragrance around magnolia and lily, white florals with a clear, declarative quality, then let peach and rose soften what could have been austere. The brief from the house was direct: translate Sagittarian traits into scent. Self-confidence. Tolerance. The hunt for meaning. Funel answered with florals that don't apologize for taking up space.
The heart of Sagittarius holds six notes, but the architecture is surprisingly legible. Petitgrain and pink tulip do quiet, essential work, the petitgrain adding a green-bitter edge that keeps the sweetness honest, the tulip contributing a soft spice that distinguishes the rose from standard floral arrangements. Narcissus adds an unexpected dimension, lending an autumnal coolness that prevents the whole thing from reading as purely summery. The pyramid is modest in height but the layers actually speak to each other, creating a dialogue between green and sweet, between sharp and soft.
The evolution
The opening announces itself quickly, magnolia and lily cutting through with cool, almost watery clarity. For the first fifteen minutes the fragrance feels crisp, almost sharp. Then the peach arrives, and everything softens. The heart unfolds over the next two hours: rose and jasmine emerge gradually, the petitgrain revealing itself as a subtle counterweight to the sweetness. By hour three, the amber begins to dominate, wrapping the florals in a warm, slightly powdery embrace. The drydown settles into something intimate, the floral warmth lingering in the air like the memory of a sunlit afternoon fading into evening.
Cultural impact
Sagittarius occupies a quiet corner of the niche market, appealing to collectors who map their own nature through zodiac archetype. The CnR Create zodiac line has maintained a small, devoted following among those who value thematic coherence over mainstream recognition. The zodiac narrative gives collectors a symbolic framework for self-expression through scent.
