The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Chrome Hearts entered fragrance in 2019 with a paired release: +22+ and +33+, two scents introduced side by side. +22+ takes the lighter hand of the two. Where its sibling hints to the spirit of Chrome Hearts through its own composition, this one holds to a brighter register: bergamot at the front, a burst of blackcurrant and raspberry at the center, leather and rose at the close. The fragrance opens with a clean citrus snap that feels almost architectural in its clarity, the bergamot slicing through the air before the fruit arrives. That fruit is layered rather than flat, the blackcurrant tart and sharp while the raspberry rounds it out with a softer, slightly jammy sweetness.
What makes +22+ interesting is how it handles the jasmine-iris tension. Both are soft, both are powdery, but they pull in opposite directions: jasmine adds warmth and skin-like sweetness, while iris brings a cool, almost metallic minerality. The blackcurrant bridges them with a tart brightness, and the raspberry pushes the fruit just slightly into candied territory without crossing over. The interplay between these notes is what gives the fragrance its quiet tension, the jasmine wanting to bloom and the iris holding it back, each keeping the other in check.
The evolution
The opening belongs to bergamot and black pepper, bright and clean with a low hum of warmth underneath. The pepper stays just behind the citrus, giving the first impression an unexpected edge that keeps the fragrance from reading as simply fresh. Soon after, the heart arrives: blackcurrant and raspberry cut through jasmine with a tartness that keeps the florals from going soft. The fruit is present but never syrupy, holding its shape as it moves into the midphase. As the composition settles, the leather starts to surface, and the rose steps forward in a way that feels more like dried petals than fresh bloom. The iris powder takes over gradually, giving the drydown a cool, almost chalky softness that lingers close to the skin.
Cultural impact
+22+ sits in a space that reads as quietly wearable, the kind of fragrance that works across settings without calling attention to itself. Its jasmine-driven profile gives it a softer center, while the blackcurrant and leather keep it from drifting into purely floral territory. The composition is often discussed alongside +33+, with the two forming a paired release that offers different readings of the same house. +22+ leans lighter and more approachable, while +33+ pulls toward a different register of its own. Still in production, +22+ remains a steady presence in the lineup, accessible in a way that keeps it in rotation.
