Heritage
A house, in its own words
Chrome Hearts was founded in 1988 in Los Angeles by Richard Stark alongside Leonard Kamhout and John Bowman. Stark had been crafting custom leather pieces, and the brand grew from that hands-on origin into a globally recognized luxury house defined by sterling silver hardware, gothic typography, and a rock-and-roll sensibility that rejected conventional retail logic. Richard and Laurie Lynn Stark became the driving creative partnership, steering the label through decades of expansion into jewelry, furniture, eyewear, and eventually hospitality. The couple kept the company privately held and fiercely independent, never chasing outside investment or licensing deals that might dilute the vision. Fragrance arrived later as a natural extension of that world. Laurie Lynn Stark treated scent-making as a personal exploration, a way to bottle the textures and atmospheres that informed the broader Chrome Hearts universe. The result was a deliberately small perfume offering shaped by instinct and intimacy rather than market research. Today the brand operates flagship stores across Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo, and beyond, each designed as a gallery-like environment. Chrome Hearts fragrances remain among the most quietly distributed niche launches of the past several years, sold almost exclusively through the brand's own channels. Chrome Hearts has never behaved like a traditional fashion house, and its fragrance program follows the same code. The brand exists to make objects, jewelry, furniture, leather, scent, that carry weight, attitude, and permanence. There is no advertising department strategy behind the perfumes, no seasonal collection calendar, no celebrity front-woman. Laurie Lynn Stark developed the fragrances as she would a piece of silver jewelry: slowly, personally, and only when the idea felt finished. That independence shapes every decision. Chrome Hearts controls its own distribution, its own narrative, and its own pace. The brand does not chase trends or commission focus groups. It does not license its name to outside manufacturers. This self-contained approach means the perfumes arrive without fanfare and sell to a small, devoted audience that already lives inside the Chrome Hearts world. The creative vision treats scent as another material to be sculpted, closer to silver casting than to formula blending. Each fragrance carries a distinct mood and texture, built to feel handcrafted rather than engineered. The result is perfume that reflects the house's broader belief: luxury worth having is made on your own terms, for people who notice the difference.
