The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Casaniche has built its identity on place-based storytelling, translating Chile's varied geography into scented narratives. Cine Niche takes a different route. Instead of Atacama dryness or Patagonian fjords, it maps something more universal: the sensory memory of a cinema. Maximiliano Cifuentes, the perfumer behind the 2024 release, reached for something that transcends location, the buttery warmth of warm popcorn, the sticky sweetness of candy bought at the counter, the particular hush of a darkened room right before the screen blooms to life.
The note structure is the statement. Popcorn at the top isn't a novelty, it's the opening act. It brings a buttery, slightly salted warmth that most fragrances avoid as too specific, too evocative of concession stands. But here, paired with biscuit and vanilla cupcake, it becomes something else entirely. Caramel bridges the transition, pulling the sweetness from confection into comfort. The result is a fragrance that reads as one coherent memory rather than a list of ingredients.
The evolution
The opening arrives immediately, buttered popcorn, warm and present. Within minutes, the biscuit note appears, giving the sweetness something to lean against. The vanilla cupcake doesn't announce itself so much as settle in, deepening the lactonic quality until the whole composition reads as warm and close. This is a scent that stays near the skin, projecting softly for the first two hours before tightening into something more intimate. The drydown holds for 4-6 hours on most skin types. By the end, the popcorn and caramel have faded, leaving a quiet vanilla cupcake base, the last sweet note before the credits roll.
Cultural impact
Part of Casaniche's 2024 Color Art collection, Cine Niche stands apart from the house's usual geographic explorations. Instead of mapping Chile's varied terrain, it maps a shared cultural moment, the sensory experience of cinema. The popcorn and vanilla cupcake combination is unusual enough to attract attention in the niche space, where collectors seek precisely this kind of distinctive, conversation-starting composition.
