The beginning
Second Skin arrived in 2023 from Care, a house whose releases that same year included Clean Silk, Energy Boost, and Blue Horizon. The brand names read less like a lineup and more like a mood board, each one a different facet of the same intent: scent that behaves like an extension of the body rather than an accessory to it. Second Skin sits at the sweetest end of that idea. Where Clean Silk pulled toward linen and neutrality, this one leans into softness you can actually taste. Raspberry opens the door. Iris holds it open. Vanilla waits in the next room. The whole shape of the bottle of intent is intimacy without announcement, and Second Skin is the clearest expression of it so far. Care makes scents for the person who doesn't need their fragrance to say anything.
What makes the composition interesting is the raspberry-iris pairing at the top, which lands with a particular kind of softness. Raspberry alone can tip one of two ways: bright and acidic, or sweet and almost confection-like. The iris root here pulls the sweetness sideways into something powdery and grown-up. The evolution
The opening is the brightest this fragrance gets, and even then it's not bright. Raspberry and lemon hit first, vivid and slightly synthetic in the way modern fruity florals tend to be, present enough to register but not sharp enough to announce. Pear softens the edges almost immediately, adding a cool, watery sweetness that keeps the fruit from reading as too candy-like. From there, the fruit steps back and iris takes the wheel. This is where the powdery accord kicks in. It has a creamy, slightly soapy warmth that wasn't there at the start. Peach blossom and peony add a soft, round fullness, like a quilt pulled up to the chin. The iris doesn't dominate so much as set the mood, turning the composition from something bright and fruity into something more intimate and settled. Eventually, the oak wood and vanilla settle in for the long haul. The fruit recedes.
