The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Camara Perfumes established its Dubai laboratory in 2016 with a clear proposition: modern unisex scents rooted in regional heritage. The house draws from Middle Eastern perfumery traditions while embracing contemporary aesthetics. Amber Addiction represents one of the lab's most personal ambitions, an attempt to isolate and amplify the fundamental pull of amber resin. The perfumers spent years exploring how to translate that magnetic quality into something wearable and modern. Cardamom emerged early as the ideal opening, chosen for its ability to cut through and establish presence before amber arrives to claim its territory.
The note selection for Amber Addiction reflects a philosophy of deliberate contrast. Cardamom was chosen specifically for its ability to create an initial spark that commands attention, a punctuation mark before the real sentence begins. Jasmine sambac softens what could have been an aggressive leather heart, providing floral warmth that invites rather than overwhelms. The base of patchouli, moss, vanilla, and amber grounds the entire structure, ensuring longevity and projection while completing the narrative arc. Each note was selected not merely for its individual character but for its ability to heighten or respond to surrounding materials.
The evolution
The journey from first spray to final fade traces a deliberate choreography of contrasts. Cardamom explodes with a green, almost effervescent quality, the spice arriving clean and tinged with faint citrus brightness. It functions almost like a reset button, demanding full attention before ceding space. At the heart phase, the composition shifts dramatically as jasmine sambac blooms against leather's bold presence, the floralcy of one softening the animalic edge of the other. This is where Amber Addiction makes its statement, where it ceases to be theoretical and becomes visceral. The drydown extends this tension through patchouli's earthy depth, moss's damp forest character, vanilla's warm sweetness, and amber's resinous glow. Each wearing reveals slightly different ratios as skin chemistry and duration alter the experience.
Cultural impact
Amber Addiction, launched in 2024 by Camara Perfumes, arrived at a moment when unisex fragrances were gaining momentum in the global market. Its cardamom‑spiced opening resonated with consumers seeking a modern twist on classic amber compositions, especially in regions where spice‑forward scents hold cultural significance. In the Middle East, the use of cardamom echoes traditional perfume ingredients, bridging contemporary design with heritage. In Europe, the balanced leather‑jasmine heart appealed to a growing audience that values gender‑fluid olfactory experiences, contributing to broader conversations about inclusivity in fragrance.
