The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Bvlgari's Polychroma collection represents the house at its most ambitious, high jewelry translated into scent. Fortunae, one of three limited flacons in the collection, carries a bottle adorned with diamonds, precious coral, rubellites, tanzanites, amethysts, and green tourmalines. The piece can be worn as a brooch. Released in 2025, this fragrance was composed by master perfumer Alberto Morillas, who built it around an amber-floral structure, luminous white florals supported by precious woods, resins, and a foundation of oud, frankincense, and sandalwood. Fortunae exists at the intersection of wearable art and olfactory luxury, a collectible that happens to smell extraordinary.
The choice of oud as a supporting note rather than a dominant one is what makes Fortunae distinctive. Where many amber-florals lean into sweetness, this one leans into smoke. Frankincense and sandalwood add a resinous depth that grounds the white florals, rose, jasmine sambac, and tuberose, and prevents the composition from becoming overly precious. The result is opulent but not fragile. It wears like something expensive because it is.
The evolution
The opening announces itself with warm amber sweetness, a luminous floral presence that feels immediate and inviting. There's no slow build here. Rose, jasmine sambac, and tuberose take over within minutes, flooding the heart with rich white floral intensity. This is the phase that defines Fortunae, heady, luminous, and unapologetically opulent. The drydown shifts the conversation. As the florals settle, the oud, frankincense, and sandalwood emerge, resinous, smoky, and grounding. The warmth lingers close to the skin for hours afterward, a quiet imprint rather than a room-filling statement.
Cultural impact
Fortunae is a limited edition from Bvlgari's Polychroma high jewelry collection, a fragrance that exists at the intersection of wearable art and olfactory luxury. Composed by master perfumer Alberto Morillas, it appeals to collectors who see fragrance and jewelry as interchangeable expressions of the same confidence. The polarizing white florals and resinous drydown generate strong reactions in either direction.
