The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Chaos Paulista arrived in 2025 from Becquer, with IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances) credited as its perfumer. No more specific creative brief is available, so the composition itself offers the clearest account of its character. Papyrus and leather establish a dry, textured center, while cardamom contributes an aromatic accent. Violet and iris bring a powdery floral character, balanced by the smooth, woody profile of sandalwood. Together, these materials create a fragrance built around dry textures, aromatic spice, floral powder, supple leather, and polished wood. The composition invites close attention to the contrast between papyrus and leather, as well as the varied surfaces of violet, iris, cardamom, and sandalwood.
The interesting part is the friction between materials that don't usually share the same vocabulary. Papyrus brings a dry, papery quality to leather, keeping the composition from becoming simply plush. Violet and iris add powder and a cool floral character, while cardamom introduces an aromatic contrast. Sandalwood adds its characteristic smooth, woody profile. Each material retains a distinct role within the composition, creating a layered combination of dry paper, supple leather, floral powder, spice, and wood.
The evolution
Chaos Paulista is built around a dry, textured combination of papyrus and leather, with cardamom contributing an aromatic accent. Violet and iris add a powdery floral dimension, while sandalwood supplies a smooth, woody foundation. These materials offer several points of contrast: papyrus and leather bring dry and supple textures, cardamom introduces spice, and violet and iris soften the composition with their floral character. Fragrance descriptions can explore how these notes relate on the skin without assigning an unsupported sequence, longevity estimate, or specific drydown behavior. Chaos Paulista is ultimately a composition of dry, aromatic, floral, leathery, and woody materials.
Cultural impact
Chaos Paulista draws attention through its combination of papyrus, leather, cardamom, violet, iris, and sandalwood. The materials create a varied fragrance profile in which dry paper and supple leather sit beside aromatic spice, floral powder, and smooth wood. Rather than relying on a broad statement about the house or a specific market position, the composition can be appreciated through these contrasts and the distinct character each material contributes.
