The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Naturals line sits in the part of Avon's catalogue that doesn't try to impress anyone. Plum & Nectarine arrived in 2019, the kind of release that quietly joins the brand's roster without fanfare or positioning copy. It was designed to do what it says on the label, nothing more. Plum for the sweet depth. Nectarine for the bright snap. Two fruits doing exactly what two fruits do best, without a supporting cast of synthetic extras layered on top to make them seem more interesting than they are. The formula leans uncomplicated, almost deliberately so, because there's a confidence in letting two ingredients carry the entire composition. No pyramidals. Just one accord, two notes, and the kind of clarity that comes from knowing when to stop adding things.
What's interesting is the restraint. Plum & Nectarine stays narrow, two fruits, one accord each, and lets them speak for themselves. The nectarine brings a slightly fuzzy, skin-like quality, almost peachy but with that sharper citrus edge that cuts through the sweetness before it can become cloying. The plum grounds it with darker, almost wine-stained sweetness, the kind of fruit that has been sitting in a bowl long enough to concentrate.
The evolution
It opens the way a cold nectarine tastes, sharp, juicy, almost mineral. That brightness holds for a while before the plum starts pulling it downward, into something warmer and rounder. The two fruits blur together gradually, becoming a single sweet-fruity impression that sits close to the skin. What emerges as time passes is a soft, slightly powdery sweetness, less fruit, more like the ghost of fruit, the memory of a fruit bowl on a table someone just cleared. The plum's wine-dark undertone lingers longest, settling into a faint sweetness that feels warm without ever feeling heavy. On fabric the sweetness seems to deepen slightly, clinging to whatever surface it was applied to with quiet persistence.
Cultural impact
Naturals Plum & Nectarine launched in 2019 as part of Avon's accessible Naturals line, a collection built around fruit-forward scents that favour simplicity over complexity. The composition uses just two named notes, nectarine and plum, each carrying a clear role within the structure. Nectarine provides the opening brightness, a sharp and slightly fuzzy quality that suggests ripe skin and citrus-edged sweetness. Plum anchors the deeper register, bringing a darker, wine-like depth that prevents the composition from feeling lightweight.
