The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lov U was created in 2022 by Domitille Michalon Bertier and Delphine Lebeau. The brief was simple: a fragrance that feels like a good day, not a special occasion. Not something you'd save for the right moment. Something you'd reach for because it fits the moment you are already in. The perfumers opened with raspberry, bright and immediate, then built a heart around rose oil and champagne. Warm. Undemanding. The kind of sweetness that doesn't need to prove itself.
What makes Lov U interesting is the cashmere wood base. Not sandalwood, not cedar, not the usual suspects. Cashmere wood reads as soft, warm, almost textile. It gives the drydown a quality that feels more like a sweater than a forest. The whipped cream and almond cream in the base amplify that texture. It's sweet, yes, but sweet in the way a warm drink is sweet. Comfort without a sugar rush. The red vanill-orchid note in the heart is what ties everything together: floral enough to keep it feminine, creamy enough to keep it gourmand. It isn't trying to be complex. It is trying to be something you actually want to wear.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and juicy. Raspberry nectar, a touch of pink pepper for lift, and water flowers to keep things translucent. It lasts about fifteen minutes before the florals take over. The rose oil deepens, becomes almost honeyed, and the champagne note adds a faint effervescence that keeps the heart from going heavy. This is the phase that defines Lov U. The one that earns the name. One to two hours in, the base arrives. Cashmere wood, almond cream, and whipped cream settle into a warmth that stays close to the skin for several hours. On fabric, it lingers longer. The next morning, there is a faint sweetness left, like a memory of something comfortable.
Cultural impact
Lov U sits in a crowded corner of the market: fruity-floral compositions in accessible formats. What separates it is the cashmere wood. It gives the drydown a quality that feels less like perfume and more like something you actually want to keep wearing. Avon has been making these moves quietly for years, and Lov U is one of the more considered ones.
