The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Christine Nagel took the Atkinsons flagship cologne, the one that's been lurking in London's good addresses since the house earned its stripes, and reimagined what a concentrated expression might feel like. Triple Extract signals a higher oil concentration within the Atkinsons range, an amplified presence that speaks to the house's moreish approach. The name refers directly to 24 Old Bond Street, the address that became shorthand for a certain kind of London assuredness. What Nagel built isn't a flanker. It's something that stands alongside the original, its own distinct proposition.
The whiskey accord serves as a pivot point in the composition, its warm spirits character providing structure without overwhelming the other elements. Paired with Turkish rose absolute, it creates a warm-spicy tension that the green tea and galbanum keep from tipping into heaviness. Galbanum brings a sharp, almost medicinal quality that cuts through the warmth, creating a cold counterpoint that makes the overall effect read as complex rather than obvious. The tonka and frankincense base rounds out the structure, giving the fragrance a foundation that lingers close to the skin.
The evolution
The opening is immediate: galbanum's green bite followed closely by juniper's clean gin character. No preamble. As the composition develops, the whiskey note emerges, still dry but filling out the scent as the galbanum settles. The Turkish rose appears as the middle evolves, not rosy-pretty but rose as material: waxy, slightly animal, undeniably present. The green tea keeps the heart from becoming heavy, a herbal lift that extends the wear. The base unfolds gradually: frankincense resin and tonka bean creating a warm, slightly powdery drydown that stays close to the skin but persists with quiet confidence.
Cultural impact
24 Old Bond Street Triple Extrait represents the Atkinsons house at its most concentrated and assured. Named for the London address that has come to define a particular kind of British elegance, the fragrance distills that character into an extrait format. It speaks to a tradition of London style that values substance over showiness, letting quality assert itself quietly.
