Why it exists.
The beginning
Nocturne 07 arrived in 2025 as part of aerse's growing portfolio of unisex compositions. The perfumer, Maxime Exler, shaped it through collaboration with Mane, the house that partnered with aerse to translate conceptual intent into wearable form. The result is a woody floral musk that reads less like a fragrance and more like a specific temperature: something between cold stone and warm skin, impossible to place on a thermometer. Nocturne 07 is the seventh verse in aerse's ongoing poetic project, and like each numbered piece in the series, it functions as a standalone olfactory poem rather than a chapter in a linear narrative.
What makes Nocturne 07 structurally unusual is how little it gives you at the surface. Bergamot and lily of the valley open the door, but neither lingers long enough to feel like a proper introduction. The cedarwood, clove, and rose heart is where the composition commits, and it's the clove doing more work than you'd expect: warming the cold florals, sharpening the wood, giving the rose an almost metallic edge that reads more like folded metal than petal. Then the base lands on Kashmiri musk and vetiver, two materials often used to evoke closeness and dry minerality in niche compositions.
The evolution
The opening is deceptively bright: bergamot cuts through with that familiar citrus snap, almost peppery in its sharpness, and lily of the valley lends a green, almost aquatic lift that makes the first moments feel cooler than the actual juice warrants. Then the top notes recede faster than you'd expect from something this composed, and the clove arrives with a dry, peppery heat that catches you off guard. It doesn't burn. It tingles, the way a single drop of cinnamon oil stings the lip. The cedarwood follows close behind, and now the composition feels structural, no longer an atmosphere but a piece of furniture you're sitting in. The rose shows up late in the heart phase, and it isn't pretty in any conventional sense. It's steely, slightly sour, the rose of a cold-storage florist rather than a garden in bloom, with a green stem-crackle running underneath.

Nocturne 07 occupies a specific corner of the niche landscape, the corner where floral compositions refuse to behave like florals. The cold-floral-meets-warm-musk structure, jarring in its first minutes, magnetic once it settles, gives it a personality that doesn't translate easily to mainstream retail logic. It rewards wearers who read fragrance as a vocabulary of mood and temperature, not as a signal to be broadcast. Within aerse's own catalog, the piece functions as one of the most temperature-driven compositions in a house that already leans heavily on atmosphere and restraint.
