Jean-François Latty
Jean-François Latty grew up in Grasse, the town that has shaped generations of perfumers. He trained at the prestigious Ecole Roure, the same institution that has produced some of the industry's most celebrated noses, and began his career in Roure's Parisian office before moving to their American subsidiary, gaining experience across different markets and creative sensibilities. His path into perfumery itself came through an unexpected route. While working in Nigeria, he found himself cultivating orange trees and immersed in the raw materials trade. It was there, among harvests and material sourcing, that he discovered his gift for composition. In 2000, he founded JFL Créations, establishing his own creative voice outside the structure of larger houses. Later, he brought that experience to Téo Cabanel as an internal perfumer while also advising ASFO, sharing his knowledge with the next generation of creators.

How Jean-François composes
Latty's style reflects his unconventional path into the profession. Trained classically but shaped by field work and raw materials trading, he brings a grounded sensibility to his compositions. His work spans multiple houses and fragrance families, suggesting versatility earned through decades of practice. He draws frequently on natural materials and maintains an understanding of ingredient sourcing that many perfumers lack. His style tends toward compositions with clear structure and identifiable character, fragrances that feel composed rather than merely blended. Whether working within the traditional frameworks of established houses or exploring new territory through his own creation, there is a consistency to his approach that speaks to a clearly defined creative sensibility.
Philosophy
What drives Jean-François
Latty approaches fragrance creation with the perspective of someone who has lived close to raw materials. Years spent in the fields of Nigeria, understanding the lifecycle of botanical ingredients from soil to harvest, gave him a respect for materials that shapes every formulation. He believes in letting ingredients express themselves fully rather than forcing them into predetermined structures. This hands-on background informs a philosophy rooted in authenticity. For Latty, perfume begins not in the laboratory but in the relationship between maker and material, a belief that keeps his work grounded even when exploring more abstract creative territories.
