Rose Velours emerged in 2013 from Van Cleef & Arpels’ Collection Extraordinaire, a line that seeks to translate the maison’s jeweler’s poetry into scent. Perfumer Antoine Maisondieu set out to celebrate the rose as the ultimate emblem of femininity and luxury, pairing it with bright Italian bergamot and crisp violet‑leaf to give the opening a fresh, dewy sparkle. The composition was designed to echo the house’s love of nature‑inspired motifs, turning a single bloom into a wearable jewel.

The heart leans on honey’s golden sweetness and orris’ powdery elegance, reinforcing the rose’s velvety depth while adding a subtle animalic whisper that feels like a soft caress. Ambroxan, benzoin and cedarwood form a warm amber‑tinged base, anchoring the floral burst with a lingering woody glow that mirrors the house’s tradition of turning precious stones into lasting impressions.

The opening bursts with crisp violet‑leaf and sparkling bergamot for the first ten minutes, a bright, green‑citrus spark that feels like sunrise on glass. Around the ten‑minute mark the honey‑sweet rose heart takes over, the orris adds a powdery veil, and the scent settles into a plush, velvety core that lasts well into the mid‑hour. By forty‑five minutes the amber‑kissed base of ambroxan, benzoin and cedarwood emerges, a warm, slightly woody trail that clings to skin and clothing. The drydown lingers for six to eight hours, leaving a subtle, elegant glow that whispers rather than shouts, perfect for evening wear or a lingering memory after the day ends.
