Character
The Story of Rose absolute
Rose absolute is a richly concentrated aromatic extract from Rosa damascena petals, prized in fine perfumery for its close resemblance to fresh flowers. Produced through solvent extraction followed by ethanol winterization, it captures the full, complex character of the Damask rose in a single material.
Heritage
The cultivation of Rosa damascena for aromatic purposes traces back to ancient Persia, where the Damask rose was prized in royal gardens and early perfumery traditions. The industry as we know it solidified in the 17th century, when Bulgaria's Rose Valley around Kazanlak emerged as the world's premier production region. Bulgarian rose growers developed specialized knowledge of distillation and extraction that became the foundation for modern natural perfumery. By the 19th century, French nez were incorporating Bulgarian rose absolute into their most prestigious creations, cementing its status as a cornerstone of fine fragrance. Today, Turkey and Iran have joined Bulgaria as major producers, though Bulgarian rose absolute remains the industry benchmark for quality and olfactory authenticity.
