The Story
Why it exists.
The Flora collection began as Gucci's tribute to the house's iconic flora print, bold botanical motifs stitched across handbags, scarves, and now fragrances. Flora Gorgeous Magnolia arrived in 2023 as the collection's newest chapter, continuing the story of flowers as symbols of power rather than fragility. Created by perfumers Daphné Bugey and Marie Salamagne, Flora Gorgeous Magnolia was conceived around a specific idea: magnolia as a representation of inner strength. The perfumers enhanced the magnolia essence with a dewberries accord, adding fruity and juicy dimensions to the composition. Patchouli was layered in to ground the scent and balance its sweetness with sensuality. Shot by Petra Collins with Miley Cyrus as the face of Flora Fantasy, the campaign positioned the fragrance as wearable confidence, a floral that doesn't apologize for taking up space.

The Beginning

Flora Gorgeous Magnolia arrived in 2023 as the collection's newest chapter, continuing the story of flowers as symbols of power rather than fragility. What makes Flora Gorgeous Magnolia distinctive is how it structures its sweetness. Dewberry opens bright and almost tart, a fruity counterpoint that prevents the magnolia from going too heavy. Coconut adds a lactonic warmth that reads as creamy rather than synthetic, the scent of sunscreen on warm skin, or coconut oil absorbed into the body. These three notes create an opening that's fruity, creamy, and bright simultaneously. The white floral heart is substantial, magnolia, jasmine sambac, ylang-ylang. But the dewberries accord keeps things from becoming potpourri. At the base, patchouli brings its signature earthiness, grounding the sweetness. Musk makes it intimate.
The Evolution
Flora Gorgeous Magnolia opens bright, dewberry and orange citrus hitting crisp and immediate. The fruitiness is tart enough to catch attention without screaming. Within the first fifteen minutes, magnolia arrives. Not a whisper of magnolia, but the full flower, buttery, lush, heady. Coconut keeps it soft underneath, adding a tropical creaminess that feels more beach than bouquet. The heart deepens the floral architecture. Jasmine sambac and ylang-ylang layer in, their tropical sweetness blending with the magnolia. Lily of the valley adds a green lift that keeps everything from going flat. The drydown is where patchouli does its work, grounding the sweetness, adding earthiness. Musk makes it intimate and close to skin. Blond woods keep it clean. On most skin types, expect 4-6 hours of wear. Some report longer. Sillage stays moderate, noticeable to those nearby but not room-filling. The patchouli and musk in the base keep it close, which means reapplication might be needed for all-day wear.
Cultural Impact
Flora Gorgeous Magnolia sits within Gucci's Flora Fantasy world, a virtual space of flowers and fantasy creatures, built around inner strength and confidence. The campaign face, Miley Cyrus, embodies that empowered positioning. The fragrance represents the house's approach to floral as feminist, flowers that don't apologize for their beauty.
The House
Italy · Est. 1921
Since 1921, Gucci has woven Italian craftsmanship into every facet of its creative identity. The House's venture into perfumery began in 1974, extending its Florentine heritage into olfactory form. Gucci fragrances capture the House's bold spirit: a collision of opulence and edge, tradition and provocation. From Gucci Envy's 1994 debut to the 2017 launch of Gucci Bloom under Alberto Morillas, each scent carries the House's signature audacity. Gucci Guilty Absolute (2025) continues this lineage, marrying intensity with unmistakable elegance.

Wearing Flora Gorgeous Magnolia feels like stepping into morning light, bright, confident, and quietly powerful. The scent has that self-assured energy of someone who doesn't need to announce themselves because their presence does the work. Lush but grounded. Sweet but not saccharine. The playlist mirrors that tension: warmth without softness, confidence without aggression.
