The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Surfing Feelings is part of Zara's Boost My Feelings collection, launched in 2021. The name says it all: it's a fragrance built around the sensation of riding a wave, that rush of salt air, mineral water, and sun-warmed skin that makes summer feel like a full-body experience. Sand opens with a mineral, granular quality that evokes sun-baked shore. Lotus adds a soft, aquatic floral note that feels cool and serene. Warm amber anchors the composition, giving the fragrance a cozy, enveloping base that translates the energy of the ocean shore into something you can wear off the beach and into the evening. It's Zara's take on accessible, effortless summer fragrance.
What makes this composition interesting is its restraint. Sand as a top note is unusual, it's mineral and granular rather than sweet, and it reads differently on everyone. Paired with lotus, it creates an unexpected tension: the cool quiet of still water meets the warmth of sun-baked shore. Amber in the base adds a warm, honeyed richness that keeps the drydown intimate rather than loud. It's not trying to fill a room. It's trying to feel like you.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, sand announces itself immediately, dry and mineral, like wet sand at the tide line. Within minutes, lotus rises through it, soft and slightly sweet, like flowers drifting on still water. The transition isn't dramatic. It's gentle. One fades into the other. Then amber arrives, bringing warmth that settles close to the skin and refuses to let go. The sand lingers underneath it all, dry and mineral, threading through to the end. The mineral quality turns warm and dry in the long drydown, while amber brings a soft sweetness that lingers close to the skin.
