Heritage
A house, in its own words
Traci and Troy Arntsen founded Voluspa in 1999, launching the brand from their kitchen in California. The couple reportedly started the venture as a personal project, creating fragrances inspired by global ingredients and their own creative sensibilities. The name Völuspá comes from an ancient Norse poem, signifying beauty born from chaos, a concept that reportedly reflects the brand ethos of transforming raw materials into something beautiful. What began as a homegrown operation gradually expanded, eventually leading to the establishment of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Southern California. Over more than two decades, the brand built distribution through major retail partners including Nordstrom and Sephora, introducing its fragrances to a broader audience. The company marked its 25th year in business in 2024, a milestone reported by multiple lifestyle publications covering the brand. In response to reportedly growing demand from retail partners, Voluspa expanded beyond candles and home fragrance into personal perfumery, launching a dedicated perfume collection with seven distinct scents. The brand remains family-owned, with Troy Arntsen serving as president and Traci Arntsen contributing to creative direction. Voluspa approaches fragrance as a form of personal expression, treating scent as a signature that reveals individual character. The brand describes its offerings as a canvas for your character, positioning fragrance as a medium for self-discovery rather than merely a household product. Their extensive fragrance library reportedly spans diverse olfactory territories, from bright citrus and floral compositions to deeper, resinous blends. The company emphasizes that self-expression through scent extends beyond the home, informing their expansion into personal perfume. Their creative vision centers on the belief that fragrance should reflect personal identity, allowing wearers and home fragrance enthusiasts to define their spaces and communicate their personalities through scent choices. This philosophy reportedly guides their product development, from initial fragrance concepting through final formulation.
