The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Viktor&Rolf named their Bonbon collection for the obvious. Something you unwrap. Something you want. The limited edition released in 2015 doubled down on what made the original compelling: warmth that doesn't apologize for itself. Cecile Matton and Serge Majoullier built this around peach, caramel, and amber, materials that evoke sweetness without relying on sugar alone. The result is a fragrance that feels like a treat you can actually wear, made by a house better known for conceptual art than comfort.
What makes Bonbon Limited Edition 2015 interesting isn't any single note, it's the structure. Peach and mandarin open bright and candied, but the heart is caramel grounded by jasmine and orange blossom. The sweetness doesn't climb; it deepens. Then sandalwood, guaiac wood, and cedar arrive to pull everything back from pure confection. The composition could tip into something cloying. It doesn't. That restraint is the craft.
The evolution
The opening announces itself immediately, peach and mandarin orange creating a bright, candied burst. Sweet, yes. But also juicy in a way that feels fresh, not synthetic. The first twenty minutes belong to the fruit. Then the hand-off. Caramel takes over the heart, softened by jasmine and orange blossom. The sweetness becomes warm rather than sharp. This is where Bonbon earns its name, that moment when something sweet becomes something you want to keep. The drydown begins around the two-hour mark. Amber settles first, then sandalwood emerges as the caramel softens. Guaiac wood and cedar round everything into something woody, warm, and intimate. The sillage lifts to a whisper by the end. Not gone, just close. The kind of fragrance that stays on skin after you've stopped smelling it.
Cultural impact
Bonbon became Viktor&Rolf's sweet counterpart to their iconic Flowerbomb, approachable where the original is theatrical, casual where Flowerbomb is a statement. The 2015 limited edition pushed further into amber and wood, giving it broader seasonal range and more warmth than earlier flankers. For those who wanted Flowerbomb's appeal without the intensity, this edition delivered.
