The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed Wings of Freedom for The Dua Brand, a fragrance that distills a particular mood: nutty, creamy, floral, grounded. It belongs to the floral amber family and opens with toasted sesame, grounding the composition in something edible and warm from the first spray. The toasted sesame offers a savory, roasted quality, the kind of opening that immediately catches your attention without announcing itself too loudly. The orange blossom at the heart softens the nuttiness with a clean, white-floral lift, and the sandalwood and vanilla in the base round everything out into a creamy, skin-like drydown. There's a toasted quality to the vanilla too, almost caramelized, which echoes the roasted warmth of the sesame and creates a clear through-line from top to bottom.
The toasted sesame is an unusual choice for a feminine floral amber, and the savory, almost roasted quality it brings to the top notes reframes everything that follows. The orange blossom heart acts as a bridge between the nutty opening and the creamy sandalwood-vanilla base, keeping the composition soft and wearable rather than strange. As the fragrance wears, the sesame slowly melts into the background while the orange blossom comes forward, lending a soft, almost powdery sweetness to the early heart.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are all sesame, toasted and warm, almost like walking past a bakery where something nutty is browning in the oven. It's surprising in a feminine floral amber because there's nothing conventionally pretty about it yet. Then orange blossom arrives, not loud or indolic, just a clean white floral sweetness that softens the nuttiness and adds lift. It stays for a while, maybe thirty to forty minutes, depending on skin. The shift into the base is where Wings of Freedom finds its final shape. Sandalwood comes in creamy and full, and the toasted vanilla wraps around it with a browned, almost caramelized warmth. This is the phase that lasts. On fabric the next morning, the vanilla and sandalwood are still there, quiet and close to the skin, more like a memory of the fragrance than the fragrance itself. Above-average longevity, moderate sillage that doesn't broadcast but doesn't disappear either.
Cultural impact
Wings of Freedom is a floral amber composition that brings an unexpected twist to a familiar structure, and the toasted sesame opening is what makes it stand apart. The roasted, almost savory quality of the sesame reframes the typical softness of a feminine amber, giving the fragrance an unusual character from the very first spray while the rest of the composition remains soft and wearable. On platforms like Parfumo, the fragrance has drawn comparison to Zadig by Zadig & Voltaire, appearing in the 'Smells similar' section as a point of reference for those exploring nutty, ambery territory.
