The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Star Of Ice arrived in 2025 from The Dua Brand's Dua Designer Line. Perfumer Mahsam Raza composed it as an Extrait de Parfum, a format that packs a high concentration of aromatic compounds into the bottle. The brief was rooted in the DNA of Mugler's Angel Iced Star, a known reference point that informed the composition's direction. The name says it plainly. Star, for the celestial sweetness at the center. Ice, for the chilled coconut water and pineapple that cut through the richness before it overwhelms. It's a composition designed to feel bright on the surface and quietly anchored underneath. What makes the structure worth pausing on is how the sweetness is handled.
What's interesting here is the structural economy. Four notes do all the work: coconut water opens, pineapple and praline build the body, patchouli closes. That kind of restraint is unusual for a composition with this much sweetness, and it shows a deliberate hand at the perfumery level. This one gets structural support from an earthy base, which means the praline never crosses into cloying territory. The patchouli choice matters. It's not a dominant base note shouting for attention. It does its job without weighing the composition down, giving the tropical opening something solid to land on.
The evolution
The opening is all chilled sweetness. Coconut water arrives first, watery and faintly milky, then pineapple cuts in with a sharp, almost green fruit acidity. There's a coolness to the opening that reads more like refrigerated fruit than anything floral or aquatic. The sensation is immediate and clean, like the first sip of something cold on a warm day, with the coconut providing a soft, creamy backdrop to the brighter pineapple brightness. As the composition develops, praline takes over. The transition isn't gradual; it's a hand-off. The coconut water recedes and a warm, hazelnut-adjacent sweetness fills the space. This is the phase where the fragrance feels most like itself, that point where the tropical opening and the gourmand heart find their balance.
Cultural impact
Within The Dua Brand's Dua Designer Line, Star Of Ice draws on the Angel Iced Star lineage as its reference point. The composition pulls in a cooler direction with its coconut water and pineapple combination, creating a tropical sweetness that feels distinct from the heavier gourmands that often dominate the category. The Extrait de Parfum format means the scent carries a richness and depth that rewards closer attention, with the praline and patchouli providing structural support to the brighter top notes.
