The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Spiced Gourmand landed in 2022 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, the collection that turned high-end scent architecture into something you could actually afford to own. The line built its reputation on accessible perfumery that takes dessert and oriental traditions and renders them in a contemporary register, and Spiced Gourmand follows that playbook closely. The composition stacks gourmand richness, nutty depth, and resinous smoke into a single pour, layering candlelit warmth with the kind of structure that makes the sweetness feel deliberate rather than accidental. It is, above all, a study in how a gourmand can feel grounded instead of cloying when the base notes pull their weight.
What separates this composition from the average dessert fragrance is the structural tension between sweet and dry layers. Hazelnut, almond, and pistachio bring the nutty richness, but elemi resin and frankincense introduce a dry, almost meditative smoke that keeps the sweetness from dissolving into sugar water. The beeswax and honey add waxy warmth rather than clean floral sweetness, while patchouli anchors everything with earth.
The evolution
The opening is immediate and unapologetic. Hazelnut and almond arrive first, followed quickly by honey and caramel, creating a warm, almost edible sweetness that fills the air around you within minutes. There is no bright citrus or sharp green to cut the richness, just a dense, golden warmth that reads like walking into a bakery at dusk. As the composition settles, the incense and elemi resin begin to surface, pulling the sweetness downward and adding a dry, smoky edge. The pistachio and tonka bean round out the heart, giving it a creamy, almost buttery texture that smooths the transition between the gourmand top and the resinous middle. The cedar and sandalwood arrive to provide a quiet woody structure, while patchouli, musk, and beeswax create a skin-close warmth that lingers for hours.
Cultural impact
Spiced Gourmand wears like a comfort scent for cold months, the kind of fragrance that gets noticed by people standing close rather than across a room. The interplay between nutty sweetness and resinous smoke gives it a character that feels more architectural than purely confectionery. The frankincense and elemi resin keep the sugar from dissolving into something sticky, while the beeswax and honey add a waxy warmth that feels closer to skin than to bakery.
