The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Showstopper arrived in 2024 from The Dua Brand, taking its cues from a composition that built its reputation on the tension between gourmand indulgence and floral sophistication. Mahsam Raza, the nose of The Dua Brand, translated that balancing act into something wearable, cherry and chocolate tempered by white florals, anchored by leather and amber. The opening presents a confident sweetness: ripe dark cherry, a ribbon of dark chocolate, and bright white florals that keep the sugar from collapsing into a one-note dessert. As those notes settle, the leather begins to assert itself, and the whole composition shifts from confection to something more architectural. It's a study in contrasts, the gourmand and the floral, the indulgent and the restrained, all sharing the same skin.
What separates Showstopper from a straightforward gourmand is the leather thread running through its heart. Cherry and chocolate compositions often lean fully into sweetness, but here, the leather note adds an unmistakable edge, a dry, slightly animalic quality that catches the light differently than the sugar around it. Milky and resinous facets in the middle ground keep the florals from going syrupy, giving the white flowers a softened, almost lactonic warmth.
The evolution
The first spray hits like a dessert plate you didn't order but can't refuse. Dark cherry, a ribbon of chocolate, and those bright lily of the valley and rose notes giving it lift. The opening is the loudest version of itself, sweet, fruity, unapologetic, the kind of introduction that announces rather than whispers. Then the jasmine and a soft leather note arrive, and the whole composition tilts. The chocolate retreats, the florals get quieter, and the leather and herbs start doing the heavy lifting. The shift is gradual, almost imperceptible at first, but unmistakable once it settles. Warmer, muskier, with amber and cedarwood taking over the architecture, the fragrance becomes something cozier, closer to skin, more contemplative. On skin, it settles into a woody-amber drydown that wraps around you with the softness of something familiar.
Cultural impact
Showstopper sits within The Dua Brand's catalog as one of its more dramatic offerings, a composition that leans into boldness rather than minimalism. The fragrance carries a certain theatricality in its construction, the gourmand opening, the floral interlude, the leather and amber base, all sequenced like acts in a play. It reads as a going-out fragrance, a statement piece for occasions that call for something with a little more weight. Within the brand's lineup, it represents a willingness to work at the louder end of the spectrum, the kind of scent that doesn't apologize for being noticed.
