The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Rising Star landed in 2023 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a grouping that brings together several pieces in the line. Rising Star draws its blueprint from Tyl Assoluto by Tiziana Terenzi, a 2016 release celebrated for its luminous blend of citrus, florals, and warm amber woods. That combination gives the original its radiant signature: a bright opening that catches light, followed by a heart of soft florals, and a base where amber woods settle into something warm and grounded. Rising Star takes that same DNA and translates it into its own composition, leaning into the amber lavender character that defines the blueprint. The opening carries a clean, almost ozonic lift, as if cold air meets the first hint of dawn.
What sets this composition apart is the meeting of ozonic notes and amber, two materials that don't typically share a formula. The ozonic accord adds a high-altitude clarity, almost like the moment after a thunderstorm passes, while the amber-vanilla base pulls everything back to earth. Blackwood and lavender bridge those two worlds, providing a cool aromatic spine that keeps the sweetness from tipping into gourmand territory. It's a structure that prioritizes atmospheric effect over traditional pyramid logic.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are a bright surge. Bergamot and lemon hit sharp and clean, supported by lavender's herbal coolness and that ozonic shimmer that makes the air feel thinner, almost alpine. Then the shift happens. The citrus doesn't vanish, it just gets absorbed into something warmer. Amber and vanilla rise through the middle, creamy and golden, while jasmine and rose add a soft floral hum that never overwhelms. Blackwood arrives underneath, giving the composition a dry, polished foundation. The drydown settles into a skin-close blend of vanilla, amber, and musk that lasts well into the evening, fading slowly enough that you'll catch traces of it on your wrist the next morning. It's a linear progression in feel, bright to warm, but the individual materials do shift underneath, making each hour feel slightly different from the last.
Cultural impact
Rising Star draws directly from Tiziana Terenzi's Tyl Assoluto, a 2016 release known for its radiant warmth and its blend of citrus, florals, and amber woods. The ozonic-amber contrast is what sets it apart from typical amber-lavender offerings, adding an atmospheric edge that makes it work in transitional weather when the air itself feels uncertain. That tension between cool ozone and warm amber gives the fragrance a unique rhythm, a push and pull that keeps the wearer engaged from the first spray to the final hours of wear. The citrus opening brings a sharp, almost electric brightness, cutting through the cooler lavender that follows.
