The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Love in Waves arrived in 2025 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line. This one offers a warm spicy floral built around a rose that behaves more like a spice than a flower, with a cashmeran drydown that holds its character long after the initial spray settles. The composition opens with a metallic warmth from pink pepper and saffron, then drapes rose over the top, creating a sweet-spicy tension that carries through the first hour. As the hours pass, the spice recedes, the rose thickens and takes on a darker, almost resinous quality, and cashmeran pulls the temperature down with its cool, mineral character. Musk and woods underneath keep the whole composition anchored, giving the drydown a fabric-soft, close-to-skin quality rather than something that projects aggressively.
What's worth noticing here is the note architecture. The top layer doesn't lead with fruit or citrus. It leads with pink pepper and saffron, two materials that share a metallic warmth, and then layers rose Ultimate Extract on top. The rose Ultimate here carries more density than a standard rose essential, giving the opening a richer body that holds its own against the spiced top notes. The heart doubles down on rose with rose oil, but the patchouli underneath keeps it from drifting into something purely pretty. Patchouli here acts as a dark anchor, giving the rose something to push against.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are the loudest Love in Waves ever gets. Pink pepper pops first, a bright, almost fizzy heat that sets the perimeter, then saffron melts in behind it, golden and slightly leathery. The rose sits on top of both, creamy rather than fresh, reading closer to a Turkish delight than a garden rose. Around the ninety-minute mark the spice recedes and patchouli surfaces. The rose thickens. It loses the airy quality of the opening and gains something denser, almost resinous. By the third hour, the cashmeran takes over. The metallic mineral quality of the molecule gives the drydown a slightly cool, fabric-like texture, as though the fragrance has settled into something you're wearing rather than something you've applied. Musk and woods underneath keep it anchored close to skin.
Cultural impact
Love in Waves reads as a warm spicy rose with a clear point of view. The combination of pink pepper, saffron, rose Ultimate, rose oil, patchouli, cashmeran, musk, and woods places it firmly in a category of fragrances that prioritize structural complexity over simple sweetness. Within fragrance communities, this kind of composition tends to attract wearers who appreciate the interplay between spice and floral, particularly when the rose carries enough body to hold its own against the more assertive top and base notes.
