The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
His Dua Water arrived in 2021 from The Dua Brand, and this one wears its inspiration openly: the classic aromatic aquatic profile that Davidoff introduced in the late 1980s and that became a touchstone for fresh masculine fragrance. The Dua Brand set out to recreate that late-eighties spirit, specifically the vintage formulation with its fuller concentration and longer arc, in a 30 ml extrait de parfum. The brief here reads as a deliberate reconstruction aimed at the version of that original people remember. The brand's approach is straightforward: study the olfactory architecture of the original, then rebuild it with ingredients that hold up. His Dua Water is part of the Dua Designer Line, the collection where this kind of work lives.
What makes this composition worth examining is the sheer density of the aromatic aquatic structure. Calone provides that distinct sea-spray marine facet, the molecule responsible for the cool, ozonic freshness that became a signature of the aquatic genre. Lavender and rosemary bring the herbal backbone, while coriander and neroli add spice and brightness to the top. The mid-section layers geranium and jasmine for a subtle floral lift, then the base stacks sandalwood, cedar, tobacco, and oakmoss for warmth and grip.
The evolution
The first 30 minutes are a cold, almost mineral rush. Mint, calone, and that unmistakable Cool Water marine signature hit immediately, bright and synthetic in the best way, like stepping into air conditioning after a hot street. Lavender and rosemary sharpen it further. Then something shifts. By the 45-minute mark, the green notes and neroli start warming up, and the composition begins to feel less like seawater and more like sun-warmed skin near seawater. Geranium and jasmine do quiet work in the background. After about two hours, the tobacco and oakmoss arrive, and the fragrance settles into a dry, slightly sweet, woody base. The sandalwood and cedar add a creamy texture that wasn't there before. At the 4-6 hour mark, it's a close-skin scent: warm, faintly herbal, with a trace of the aquatic brightness still ghosting through. Not a beast-mode performer, but it holds its shape through a workday. The next morning, a soft musky-amber trace on the shirt collar.
Cultural impact
His Dua Water by The Dua Brand taps into a long-running visual vocabulary around aquatic compositions, the kind of cool, open-air imagery that has shaped how fresh masculine fragrance gets presented in advertising and on shelf. The composition works the same well-worn chords: marine notes up top, herbal aromatics in the middle, and a warm woody-amber base where sandalwood, cedar, tobacco, and oakmoss do the heavy lifting.
