The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Halloween 2025 is The Dua Brand's seasonal composition, released in 2025 as part of the Original Blend Collection. The brief was clear: conjure the olfactory architecture of an oriental spice composition and rebuild it at the brand's accessible price point. The fragrance is vegan, pulling from the deepest end of the oriental shelf with a gourmand edge that feels purpose-made rather than accidental. Saffron opens with a spiced heat, dry and leathery, dusting over dates that are rich, almost fermenting with their own sugar. Dried apricot folds in, jammy and sun-warmed, while red wine deepens the sweetness with a tannic grip. Burnt caramel threads through the whole, scorched and golden, the kind of note that pulls everything into a syrupy, resin-stained warmth.
What makes this composition unusual is the collision of gourmand and resinous structures. The opening burns with burnt caramel and saffron-dusted dates. Then red wine pours through the heart, staining dried apricot and vanilla with fermented heat. The base shifts gravity entirely: myrrh and frankincense smolder underneath oud, while civet adds that animalic flicker of skin-warmth. It is not a polite oriental. It is a dressed-up one: amber-heavy, wine-stained, unapologetically sweet, and threaded with enough smoke to keep it from collapsing into dessert.
The evolution
The composition opens hot and fast. Saffron and burnt caramel hit with an aggressive, golden sweetness, the dates folding into a wine-stained richness almost immediately. Dried apricot sits underneath, jammy and sun-ripe, giving the opening a thick, almost edible quality. Red wine sharpens the edges, adding a tannic, fermented edge that keeps the sweetness from going flat. As the composition settles, vanilla smooths everything out, rounding the burnt caramel into something creamier and less aggressive. Sandalwood and cardamom ground the sweetness, pushing the composition into warmer, spicier territory. The resinous notes begin to surface here, and the whole thing shifts register. Oud and myrrh push the composition darker, more resinous, almost liturgical. Frankincense smolders underneath, a cool incense smoke curling beneath the heavier woods.
Cultural impact
Halloween 2025 sits in the oriental-gourmand territory, a profile that pulls together amber, oud, and burnt sugar in a way that feels purpose-built for cold air and candlelight. The saffron-red wine-burnt caramel accord at its center gives the composition a mulled, warming character, the kind of scent that conjures kitchens in late October, wine simmering on the stove, dates and apricots roasted until their sugars caramelize. It's a fragrance that wants to be worn in low light, on a night when heavier scents feel right and subtlety feels wrong.
