The beginning
Dua Formula 010 launched in 2021 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, a series built around reconstructing high-end compositions for a different kind of buyer. Formula 010 lives in a space that prizes boldness over restraint, and it wears that intention openly from the first spray. Strawberry, banana, raspberry, and plum flood the top, each fruit arriving in quick succession before settling into a syrupy, almost confected sweetness that refuses to apologize for itself. Underneath that fruity brightness sits a rose-oud base, rich and unapologetic, anchoring the louder notes with something older and more grounded. The contrast is the appeal.
What makes Formula 010 structurally interesting is its sheer volume. Most compositions this packed would collapse into noise. Here, the fruit accord acts as a sweetener for the more demanding materials, the oud, the leather, the oakmoss, making them approachable without sanding off their edges. The aldehydes and chamomile in the upper layers do the heavy lifting, lifting everything into a sparkling, almost effervescent register before gravity pulls it back down into the warm, spiced base. It's a layering trick that depends on contrasts: the green sharpness of violet leaf against the plushness of cotton candy, the dry austerity of cedar against the syrupy depth of cocoa. The evolution
The first 20 minutes are a jolt. Mandarin and lime cut through the strawberry and banana with a bright, almost artificial sweetness, the kind that makes you check your wrist twice. Pink pepper and cinnamon add a fizzy warmth underneath, and aldehydes give the whole thing a lifted, sparkling quality, like carbonation in a cocktail. Violet leaf threads through, keeping the green note alive before the florals fully take over. By the 30-minute mark, the fruit has mellowed and rose de Mai starts to surface, along with Grasse jasmine, geranium, and chamomile. The banana is still there, but now it's behaving more like a creamy texture than a flavor. This is the sweet spot for most wearers. Around the 2-hour mark, the composition shifts decisively. The oud appears, not loud, but present, sitting alongside leather, vanilla, and cocoa. Sandalwood and patchouli ground everything while oakmoss and fir balsam add a dry, resinous edge. Cotton candy makes a final appearance, but it's subdued now, more memory than statement.

Formula 010 sits in an interesting position in the contemporary niche fragrance conversation. It is a composition that refuses to behave like a background scent, and that refusal has earned it a following among wearers who treat fragrance as a personal signature rather than a finishing touch.
