The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Drifting Jasmine joined The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection in 2026, crafted by in-house perfumer Mahsam Raza. The concept threads a needle that most fragrance houses attempt and few manage: a jasmine composition that reads airy rather than heady, fleeting rather than overblown. Raza built the composition around Calypsone, then brought jasmine in alongside it. The idea was to capture jasmine the way it actually behaves in open air, diffused, softened, already half-dissolved. Bergamot enters the composition, followed by a heart where jasmine and Calypsone share the stage. Patchouli and Georgywood ground the base, while Sylkolide sits among them, lending its clean musk accord.
What separates Drifting Jasmine from the crowd is the pairing of Calypsone with Sylkolide, two modern aroma chemicals flanking jasmine on either side. Calypsone shapes the opening facet, lending a cool dimension to the composition. Sylkolide, described in the formula as a clean musk accord, tethers the other materials, holding everything to the body without weighing it down. Between them sits jasmine, which gains lift and transparency from the two bookending molecules. Georgywood reinforces the dry-wood read, rounding out the base with a modern signature rather than a classic one.
The evolution
On first application, bergamot cuts through with a bright, sharp character, cool against the colder facets that Calypsone introduces beneath it. The citrus top reads crisp and almost metallic in its clarity, setting an unexpected tone before the florals emerge. As the opening settles, jasmine arrives, not the dense, indolic variety, but a lighter expression that floats above the base. The synthetic musk supports the floral from underneath, keeping it suspended rather than letting it sink into heaviness. As the composition moves through its middle phase, the florals begin to recede, and patchouli surfaces with a warm, slightly earthy quality, grounded by Georgywood's dry woodiness. Sylkolide starts to take a more dominant role in the later stages, wrapping the remaining notes in a clean, sheer veil.
Cultural impact
Drifting Jasmine reads restrained, almost shy, especially when set beside more assertive jasmine-heavy compositions. That quietness positions it differently in a wearer's rotation, less an event fragrance, more a daily companion that slots easily into warm-weather wardrobes. The composition leans into transparency, with skin-like wear rather than the kind of projection that announces itself across a room. Worn close, it behaves like part of the wearer's own scent rather than something layered on top.
