The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Cola Fizz Of Tonka Beans arrived in 2024 as part of The Dua Brand's Designer Line. The composition is openly inspired by Tonka Cola by Mancera, and the brand leans into that lineage rather than hiding it. Perfumer Mahsam Raza built the scent around the unapologetically playful aroma of its reference, turning a gourmand-spicy concept into something fizzy and immediate. The opening hits with that familiar cola-charge: bright citrus, a dark cherry sweetness, and the warm spice of nutmeg and cinnamon all jostling for attention within the first few minutes. There's a candied quality to the top that feels deliberate, almost confectionery, before the heart begins to settle. Raza's approach is confident and direct, treating the reference material as a launching point rather than a constraint.
What makes the formula distinctive is the way citrus and cola share the same airspace. Sicilian lemon lifts the opening with a sharp, sun-on-stone brightness, but it doesn't sit in a traditional cologne register. The nutmeg and cinnamon pull it sideways, into the warm-spicy territory that cola already implies. Black Cherry adds a jammy, almost cocktail-cherry depth, while Indonesian patchouli grounds the heart with a dusky, earthy undertone that keeps the sweetness from tipping into syrup.
The evolution
Cola Fizz Of Tonka Beans opens with a bright burst of Sicilian lemon fizz layered over black cherry, cola, and a dusting of nutmeg-cinnamon warmth. The heart deepens as Indonesian patchouli and orange blossom settle in alongside the Brazilian tonka bean, giving the composition a sticky-sweet mid-stage that reads like a candied cherry cordial. As the hours pass, benzoin, labdanum, and vanilla take over, leaving a warm balsamic trail that softens gradually against the skin. The overall arc moves from effervescent and playful to a denser, more resinous tonka-amber close, with the spice notes receding into the background as the base takes its time to fully unfurl. The drydown lingers in a creamy, vanillic haze, with the benzoin lending a faintly smoky edge to the final hours of wear.
Cultural impact
Cola Fizz Of Tonka Beans lives in a specific corner of the fragrance world: the gourmand-spicy space where cherry, cola, and tonka overlap. It pulls together notes that have been appearing individually across countless releases over the past few years and stacks them into a single, unapologetically sweet composition. The formula leans fully into its candy-aisle sensibility, treating the cola accord as a central character rather than a supporting note, and surrounding it with enough spice and resin to keep the sweetness from feeling one-dimensional.
