The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza built Classic Pineapple in 2024 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, a catalog of fragrances that draws on recognizable luxury profiles. The composition draws a direct line to the fruity-floral archetype that D&G's Pineapple wore so well: bright tropical fruit over a creamy, slightly smoky base. The approach here is reconstruction rather than reinvention. The pineapple sits at center stage, the vanilla absolute and tobacco anchor the floor, and the florals thread the middle. Clean construction. Familiar blueprint. Accessible execution.
The interesting move is what Raza did with the heart. Pineapple and tobacco rarely share a stage. One belongs in poolside spritzes, the other in leather-and-whiskey territory. Pairing them in the same composition creates an unexpected tension, one that the supporting notes work to resolve. The jasmine sambac adds a white-floral bridge that keeps the whole thing from tipping too gourmand, while the ambergris and orchid round out the middle with their own quieter contributions.
The evolution
The opening is sharp, sugary, and immediate. Pineapple and Sicilian mandarin cut through with that bright, almost candied edge of juice left to concentrate on the tongue. Then the jasmine sambac arrives, not as a whisper but as a second wave of sweetness, creamy and full, softening the citrus into something rounder and more giving. As the composition settles, the tobacco makes its presence felt, pulling the vanilla absolute down with it into a warm base that clings close to skin. The ambergris adds a musky-animalic warmth underneath, the kind of presence that reads as body heat rather than applied scent. The orchid is the quietest player, a powdery lift that keeps the vanilla from going flat or one-dimensional. Over time, what's left is a close, creamy vanilla-tobacco trace, faintly fruity, the pineapple now more memory than statement.
Cultural impact
Classic Pineapple occupies a recognizable place in the landscape of fruit-forward fragrances, offering a take on the tropical-gourmand archetype that wears its sweetness without apology. It's the kind of scent that shows up in collections where the goal is a recognizable, crowd-pleasing profile rather than something designed to challenge expectations. Pineapple fragrances carry their own cultural weight, calling up images of summer heat, poolside leisure, and the bold sweetness of fruit-forward perfumery.
