The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
#Bliss arrived in 2023 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, the catalog that sources harder-to-find niche compositions and rebuilds them for a broader audience. This particular release reaches for Paradis des Sens' Utopia, a composition from a house that built its reputation on a tight collection of exactly eight scents. The Dua Brand's approach has always been consistent: find something the niche world loves, study its architecture, and reconstruct it by hand at a price point that opens the door wider. No celebrity perfumer credit, no farm-to-bottle mythology. Just a reconstruction aimed at people who'd never find the original, or wouldn't pay the markup if they did.
What's interesting here is the note list, because it doesn't behave like a typical white floral. Bergamot, tangerine, and neroli at the front, the usual brighteners. Then the heart stacks five florals (orange blossom, ylang-ylang, jasmine, rose, orris) with sandalwood and patchouli threading through them. The interplay between orris and rose gives the bloom a powdery edge that keeps it from reading as purely sweet, while the ylang-ylang adds a dense, almost tropical fruitiness that thickens the composition before the base even settles in.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are all citrus. Bergamot and tangerine land bright, a little sharp, like squeezing peel over a glass. The neroli softens that quickly, pulling the opening into something greener and more floral before the heart even fully arrives. Then the bloom hits, and it hits hard. Orange blossom, jasmine, ylang-ylang, rose, all of them at once, layered over a sandalwood-orris base that makes the whole thing feel creamy rather than perfumey. The patchouli is there but quiet, more of a shadow than a statement, adding an earthy depth that keeps the florals from floating away. After about an hour, the florals start to step back, and the base takes over. Vanilla and sandalwood carry most of the drydown, with the white florals still humming underneath, like a faint memory of the bloom. The musk arrives last, soft and skin-like, pulling everything down to a warm, powdered close.
Cultural impact
#Bliss taps into the enduring appeal of creamy, neroli-led compositions, leaning into orris and sandalwood as the structural backbone of the scent. The composition offers something softer and more powdery than the heavier gourmands and syrupy flankers that have saturated recent releases. Wearers gravitate toward neroli-led openings for their bright, green-floral lift, and the heart here delivers a generous bouquet of jasmine, orange blossom, ylang-ylang, and rose that feels lush without tipping into cloying territory.
