The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The 2012 launch of five fragrances marked Terry de Gunzburg's entrance into perfumery, and Flagrant Délice was among them. Jacques Flori, Karine Vinchon-Spehner, Sidonie Lancesseur, and Arthur Le Tourneur d'Ison composed it at Robertet in Grasse, building around fig and almond milk as the anchoring idea. The sweet, lactonic character unfolds with creamy undertones that feel simultaneously fresh and indulgent, like the inside of a ripe fig sliced open in a sunlit kitchen. The almond milk note rounds the edges, lending a soft, velvety quality that prevents any harshness. The name says it all: flagrant delight. No hedging, no restraint. Just the thing itself.
Fig is a tricky material, it sits between the green austerity of the fruit's skin and the honeyed cream of its milk. Flagrant Délice leans into the latter, letting almond milk amplify the lactonic warmth until it reads as almost edible. The genius move is the red currant in the base: a tartness that keeps the sweetness from becoming a single, monotonous note. Tonka bean adds depth through coumarin, that warm, hay-like sweetness that smells nothing like sugar but feels similar. White musk ties it together, soft and clean, so the whole composition stays cozy rather than heavy.
The evolution
The opening hits bright, bergamot and mandarin arrive together, sharp and citrusy, before the milk softens everything. That's when the shift happens: from a scent that announces itself to one that whispers. The fig doesn't announce either. It arrives quietly, blending with the almond and cream until you can't separate them. The lactonic quality deepens as coconut and heliotrope add texture, creating a smooth, edible impression that feels almost translucent. By hour two, the tonka bean and white musk take over, wrapping the skin in warmth that stays close. On fabric the next morning, there's a faint trace of sweetness, almost imperceptible, but unmistakably there.
Cultural impact
Flagrant Délice arrived as part of a five-fragrance debut collection from a brand known for color cosmetics. The composition centers on fig and almond milk, creating a lactonic character with creamy, edible undertones that distinguish it from heavier gourmand fragrances. The blend offers a sweet yet refined interpretation, with the fig providing subtle green facets alongside its fruitiness while the almond milk lends a comforting, almost nostalgic warmth. This approach reflects the brand's broader aesthetic translated into scent.
