The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Enticing arrived in 2014, following Soma's 2011 release Oh My Gorgeous. The brand frames each release as a suspended moment in memory, and this one was built to capture a specific kind of pull, the sensation of leaning closer, of wanting to stay. Laurie Van Brunt, the company's president, called it a signature scent: beautiful, sensual, elegant. The bottle followed the idea, a curved, light blush form meant to recall feminine lines, with the form itself symbolizing feminine curves in that same light blush color. The composition is notably stripped down. One fruit to open, a bouquet of three florals at the center, a single musk to close it out. Nothing competing for attention, nothing shouting over the juice inside.
What's striking is how restrained the pyramid is. One top note, blackcurrant, bringing a tart, almost wine-like quality that carries a green stem bitterness underneath, keeping it from reading as a simple berry candy. The heart layers gardenia, rose, and freesia together, and the way those three play off each other gives the composition its shape: gardenia brings the cream, rose brings the romance, freesia keeps the air moving so the white florals never turn soapy. Then white musk alone in the base, no sandalwood, no amber, no vanilla buffer.
The evolution
On skin, the opening reads bright and fruit-forward. Blackcurrant has a tart, almost wine-like quality here, with a green stem bitterness underneath that keeps it from reading as a simple berry candy. Think crushed cassis with a chill still on it. The currant settles into a softer, syrupy register as the heart comes forward, and the gardenia shows itself properly, not sharp, not plasticky, just creamy and full, the way real gardenia smells in a warm room rather than in a candle. Rose threads through underneath, faintly jammy, and freesia lifts the whole thing with a clean almost-peppery brightness. As the hours pass, the florals settle and the white musk takes over, and this is where the fragrance becomes personal. The musk sits close to skin, slightly lactonic, warm without ever tipping into gourmand territory.
Cultural impact
Enticing arrived in 2014, following Soma's 2011 Oh My Gorgeous, and it carried the same memory-first sensibility the brand had become known for. Its single blackcurrant opening, gardenia-rose heart, and clean white musk base gave the composition a stripped-down clarity that stood apart from the heavier, sweeter launches crowding the market at the time. Laurie Van Brunt, the company's president, framed it as a signature scent: beautiful, sensual, elegant, and the restraint of the pyramid, one fruit, three florals, one musk, read as a confident editorial choice rather than a limitation.
