The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Serge Normant spent decades sculpting hair for celebrities, shaping the looks of women who define red carpet glamour. In 2012 he translated that visual artistry into something you could wear close to the skin. Avah means desire, a word that captures the energy he sees in the women who inspire his work. The perfume was his first step into fragrance, an extension of a creative life built around beauty and transformation.
The note selection reflects a specific aesthetic: creamy florals anchored by warmth and softened by skin-like woods. Ylang-Ylang was chosen for its lush, tropical richness, Amber for its golden warmth, Jasmine for its opulent floral depth, and Musk-Woody for a clean, Intimate finish. The pairing rationale is coherence over contrast, each note amplifying the warmth of the others rather than creating tension.
The evolution
Ylang-Ylang sets the tone immediately at opening, its creamy tropical character defining the first wave you experience. As time passes, the heart emerges with Amber adding warmth and Jasmine bringing rich, opulent floralcy. The combination reads as sensuous and slightly exotic. Moving into the drydown, Musk takes over the skin proximity while Woody Notes extend the trail with clean, understated persistence. The journey is essentially one of warmth meeting quiet intimacy, floral richness mellowing into something more personal.
Cultural impact
Since its 2012 debut, Avah has become a subtle cultural marker within the salon‑inspired fragrance niche, reflecting a shift toward products that bridge hair care and personal scent. Its ylang‑ylang focus resonated with consumers seeking a fresh, botanical accent that complements both hair and skin, influencing subsequent releases from niche houses that prioritize multi‑use applications. The fragrance’s moderate longevity and projection have also sparked discussions about sustainable wear, encouraging users to apply less frequently while still achieving a lasting impression, thereby aligning with broader trends toward minimalist beauty routines.
