Why it exists.
The beginning
Leather Essenza arrived in 2018 from Pocket Scents. The brand had been building toward something specific with Leather Essenza, a composition that takes the rugged, smoky DNA of a great leather and makes it wearable, approachable, and lasting. Released as one of the house's considered reinterpretations of well-known accords, the fragrance draws clear inspiration from the dense, warm leather compositions that have become reference points in modern perfumery. Pocket Scents approached the project with a clear intention: capture the feeling of a dense, smoky leather accord while keeping the composition accessible to a wider audience. The result is a leather fragrance that prioritizes wearability and longevity without sacrificing the depth that makes the category so compelling.
What makes this composition work is the restraint. Cardamom opens alone, no citrus fanfare, no bergamot cover charge. It just hits warm and slightly metallic, like the first minute of a real spice jar opened. Then the leather and jasmine sambac arrive together, which is an unusual move. White florals in a leather composition usually show up as neroli or orange blossom, but jasmine sambac is heavier, more indolic. Pairing it with leather is a deliberate friction: soft meets rough, sweet meets smoke. The base doesn't try to soften the landing.
The evolution
The opening is almost entirely cardamom, green and sharp, warming quickly as it hits skin. The leather begins to surface early, and it doesn't tiptoe. It comes in heavy, supple, slightly sweet from the jasmine sambac that arrives at the same time. The floral isn't a background note here, it sits right at the front of the heart, giving the leather a creamier, more rounded quality than a pure suede or birch-tar construction. The jasmine sambac gives the composition a lush, almost tropical sweetness that tempers the rougher aspects of the leather, creating a tension that keeps the fragrance interesting through the heart phase. As time passes, the jasmine gradually recedes and the base takes over: amber that reads warm and resinous, patchouli that grounds everything in something earthy and slightly bitter, moss that adds a damp, forest-floor texture.
