A house, in its own words
Patrice Martin began his perfumery journey at the prestigious Roure perfume house in the mid-1980s, remaining there for over fifteen years. Roure, now integrated into Givaudan, has trained generations of notable perfumers and maintains a reputation for rigorous technical education. Martin's tenure at this house provided foundational training in classical fragrance composition before he ventured into independent creation. The brand launched in 2018, joining the wave of niche perfumery that emerged in the late 2010s and early 2020s. His 2018 releases including Victorious, Rose De Damas, and Tabac Gourmand established initial territory, with Tabac Gourmand particularly standing out for its unusual tobacco-and-gourmand combination. The subsequent years saw expanding exploration across themes: Miss Cherry brought cherry-forward florals in 2022, while Maqam in 2024 referenced musical scale systems in its naming. As of 2025, the brand continues releasing new work, with Harmony appearing as one of the most recent additions. The Russian origin places the house within a specific geographic context of perfumery that has seen growing interest in recent decades, though the independent niche sector in that region remains relatively small compared to Western European centers.
Patrice Martin's approach to perfumery reflects a structured methodology developed during his extended training at Roure. The house appears to favor compositions that layer distinct olfactory families rather than focusing narrowly on single themes. This is evident across the catalog, where fragrances like Tabac Gourmand combine balsamic, gourmand, and tobacco elements, while Cherry Incense bridges fruity, incense, and resinous territories. The maqam reference in Maqam suggests an interest in structured progression and harmonic relationships that may inform how the brand constructs fragrance narratives. Martin reportedly believes in using scent to evoke specific emotional states and memories, positioning the work as experiential rather than purely aesthetic. The breadth of themes explored across the 33-plus releases indicates a creator who resists narrow specialization, instead treating perfumery as a medium capable of addressing varied emotional and conceptual territory. The combination of Russian founding with Western training creates a bridge between different perfumery traditions, potentially influencing how compositions balance boldness with refinement.
